These are the terms of using OwnerNumbers. They're short on purpose.

What this site is

OwnerNumbers is a free site that provides financial calculators, plain-English guides, and an optional newsletter for small business owners. Everything is free to use unless we say otherwise.

Not advice

The calculators and content on this site are general-purpose tools for understanding common financial ratios and concepts. They are not financial advice, legal advice, tax advice, or a recommendation about any specific financial product, lender, accountant, or service. The output of a calculator is a math result with plain-English interpretation — what to do with that information depends on your specific situation, which we don't know.

For decisions that materially affect your business, consult a qualified professional. We mean it.

No warranty

We try to make the calculators correct and the guides accurate. We test the math against reference cases, cite our benchmark sources, and update content when we find mistakes. But we provide everything "as is." If a calculator gives you a wrong number because of a bug, an outdated benchmark, or a misclassified input on your side, we're not liable for any business decisions you make based on that output.

You are responsible for the accuracy of any data you enter into the calculators or wizards. OwnerNumbers does not audit, review, or independently verify user-provided inputs. Any reports generated reflect the inputs as entered; the accuracy of the reports depends entirely on the accuracy of those inputs. You are also responsible for your own use of any reports the site generates — including your decision to share them with bankers, accountants, partners, or anyone else.

If you find an error, tell us — see the about page — and we'll fix it.

What you can do with the content

You can use the calculators for any purpose, including for your business. You can take the PDF reports the calculators generate to your accountant, banker, or anyone else. You can quote sentences from our guides on social media or in your own writing with attribution. You can link to anything on the site freely.

You can't copy entire guides or articles to host them on your own site, repackage the calculators as if they were yours, or claim our content as your own work. The math itself isn't copyrightable; the prose, design, and interpretation logic are.

Newsletter

If you sign up for the newsletter, we'll send you the issues you signed up for. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email. We won't share your email address with anyone other than Beehiiv (the email service we use to send the newsletter). See the privacy policy for more.

External links

We sometimes link to third-party sites — accounting software, government statistical sources, AI services, and so on. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content or practices.

Changes

If we change these terms, we'll update the "Last updated" date. The current version is always the one in effect. We won't change them retroactively in ways that would affect things you already did under the old terms.

Disputes

If something goes wrong, our preferred order of escalation is: email us first, give us a chance to fix it. If we can't resolve it that way, these terms are governed by the laws of Alberta, Canada, and any disputes will be handled there.
